How does speech translation work?
Speech Translation uses different technologies to provide users with voice-enabled translation technology. The technologies that are being used are as follow:
Speech Recognition (conversion from voice to text)
Machine Translation (computing translation using machine learning)
Speech Synthesis (voice computing process to translated language)
Why is my language not supported?
The Pilot translation app is the speech translation system used with the Pilot earpiece, together they provide the full experience with the Pilot Conversational Kit. This product (scheduled for release next May 2017) is designed for conversations in Romance-based languages.
Additional language groups from the current text pool will be added soon. We rely on users’ feedback to outline our future languages so if you have a suggestion on which languages you would like to see added, please send us an email at support@waverlylabs.com
Why launching a simple speech translation app before releasing Pilot?
“We believe this app will enable our users to become more familiar with Speech translation technology and the Waverly Labs products. Also, Machine Translation is a process which improves over time: the more people use it, the better it gets. Hence, we want to let the community help us improve our technology, ahead of the Pilot earpiece release .” Andrew Ochoa, CEO of Waverly Labs
***Please note: The current version of the Pilot translation app requires Internet or data connection. Future versions of the app will allow for offline use.
